Tell us about your Community’s passion and spirit for sport, recreation and active living.

The idea for the Chase Skate Park was started over a decade ago, because the nearest skate park is an hours drive away. The kids who originally started the fundraising have since moved on, but the fund kept going and growing, ever so slowly. Last September, a registered Society was formed by community members (business owners, parents, students) to take on the project in a more dedicated way. Our hardworking group has put in many hours and held many fundraisers. We are constantly asked the same question from all ages of Chase residents: "when is the skate park getting built!?" Folks in this town, of approx 2500, want to see more "things for the kids to do", and a skate board park is a perfect fit! We have many letters of enthusiastic support from all types of businesses and organizations, including the Village of Chase and the Chase Lions Club and Chase Rotary Club. We have received many offers of in-kind donations once we get to the Construction phase of this project.

What Community Project would most benefit from the prize money?

To say the The Chase and District Skate Park would "benefit" from the prize money would be a huge understatement. The Chase and District Skate Park Society has been working hard to raise money to build a multi-use facility for skateboards, scooters, and bikes, and winning the Kraft Heinz Project Play would be a dream come true for this community! We already have the location approved by the Village of Chase, and a geotechnical report declaring the land suitable to build on. We have the plans and a 3-D model created by a world class Engineering Company, Spectrum Skateparks. We have local contractors offering to help us. $250,000 is basically the amount we require for the construction phase. If we were awarded the prize money we could have kids skateboarding in this park within the year!!!

What impact would this project have on your community?

Completion of this project would have a HUGE impact the community of Chase!!! The youth of Chase and the neighbouring Indian bands (Neskonlith Indian Band, Adams Lake Indian Band, Little Shuswap Lake Indian Band) would be all over this park! The purposes of our society are: 1) To provide youth in Chase & District with a skatepark the provides outdoor recreation, is safe and promotes opportunities for health and wellness 2)To coordinate skatepark events that create community involvement, spirit, civic pride and youth involvement 3) To offer youth healthy alternatives, decreases crime and gives youth a sense of belonging with their peers The community as a whole would also benefit from the tourism created by this park and the events we could host! The design we have is very unique; great for all levels, AND interesting enough to draw users from across the province! There would be a huge sense of accomplishment throughout the community with the completion of this project.
